Genesis 24 v 12-29
Genesis 24 v 62-67
Genesis 25 v 19-28

"Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.
When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them." ( Verses 21-26)

Genesis 27 v 1-40

Rebekah's story is one showing control, the true control - God's Sovereignty and our own will.
It all starts when Rebekah meets Isaac, almost like a movie script, the perfect love- at- first- sight fireworks and explosions type of meeting almost oscar nomination worthy. We all know with hindsight that this was a God ordained meeting, his planned love story from the start. He knew of this encounter and he knew exactly what it would lead to and how the rest of the movie would play out almost like he had seen the ending even before the beginning of the film had started.

When it comes to Rebekah's children Jacob and Esau God's plan vs her plan became a harder topic, this is serious this was about which child was going to get the blessing. Traditionally it would go to Esau, as he was the older child however Rebekah wanted to protect the Lord's lineage. Rebekah's manipulation didn't threaten or hinder God's sovereignty, sin has very important consequences to remember but God's plan will always remain  unwavering and steadfast even when we do things that may upset him or show favouritism or deceit.

God knew every piece of Rebekah's puzzle of life and put a purpose in them for his plan and his glory long long before they ever came to be.

God knew Rebekah would try to manipulate the blessing from Esau to Jacob, her scheming was not the reason Jacob got the blessing God's plan was and God's plan is always for good.

Rebekah's story is not just about her children, it's not about the fairness of life or the fact she tried to control it. Rebekah's story is just like yours and just like mine, it's about the goodness of God, it's about a God who does things that we don't even see happening or can understand why it's happening, yet he does them because of his love for us.

Truth be told we are all Rebekah's trying to control our own paths in life, trying to control things that aren't there for us to control. We are all Esau's who think life isn't fair and we are all Jacob's who get the Lord on our side when we have done nothing to deserve any of it.
